Gentle strength
The American Bully is a young breed, developed in the United States during the 1990s. Breeders crossed the American Pit Bull Terrier with several bulldog types to create a dog that combined the imposing build of a fighting dog with a markedly gentle, companion-oriented character. The result was recognised as a breed of its own around the turn of the century and quickly grew into a popular family dog.
Despite its powerful appearance, the Bully is known for its friendly, affectionate nature. It is a dog that seeks the closeness of its people, is patient with children and rarely shows real aggression. Loyalty and a deep trust in its own family mark its temperament.
In build the American Bully is compact and heavily muscled, with a broad chest, a short smooth coat and a strikingly wide, angular head. The coat comes in almost every colour, from solid to brindle. Elena Vittori captures precisely the contrast: the massive head against the soft eyes. The fresco treatment lays the patina of stone over the coat, as though the dog had been waiting for centuries — faithful and unmoved.
